Liquid coating systems for metal roofs

Systems that stop corrosion in its tracks. Four liquid-applied systems, developed for cut edge corrosion and whole roofs, all certified and all guaranteed.

Developed for metal roofs. A range of advanced liquid-applied systems, from sealants to full spray coatings.

The systems on this page were developed by Allbase from a background in advanced materials, composites and coatings supplied to industry. Each one is liquid-applied, so it bonds to the profile of the sheet rather than sitting on top of it, and each is chosen for a job rather than sold as a range. Two are for cut edge corrosion, two are for coating whole roofs.

Every system is certified, applied by expert contractors to a written specification, and guaranteed through Basecare for material and workmanship together.

For cut edge corrosion

STP. Silane terminated polymer, the everyday sealant for the cuts.

A single-component sealant that bonds to plastisol, PVDF and bare galvanised steel alike, cures in damp conditions, and stays flexible as the sheets move with the weather. It is worked into the cut and along the lap as a bead, then coated over, so the cut is sealed against moisture and the corrosion underneath it stops.

Used for
Eaves, end laps, verges and the cuts around rooflights and vents
Applied by
Brush and knife, from the roof
Cures
Moisture curing, in damp conditions
Finish
Coated over with the treatment system in the roof colour

For cut edge corrosion

Polyurethane. High build, for cuts that need reinforcing as well as sealing.

Where the coating has pulled back from the cut and the steel is corroding, the cut needs more than a seal. The polyurethane system builds a reinforced band over the cut and a hand's width of sheet either side, encapsulating it so it cannot lift again. Tough enough for foot traffic along the lap and flexible enough to move with the roof.

Used for
Advanced stage corrosion, gutter lines and heavily corroded laps
Applied by
Brush and roller, with reinforcement where the cut needs it
Cures
Single component, cures to a hard flexible film
Finish
Colour matched to the roof

For whole roofs

Hybrid polymer. Spray-applied for a seamless, weatherproof roof.

Once the factory coating on the sheets is failing, the cuts are sealed first and the whole roof is spray coated in one continuous film. The hybrid polymer system covers every lap, fixing and profile without a seam, renews the surface of the roof and gives it one guarantee from ridge to eaves.

Used for
Full roof coating over prepared and sealed sheets
Applied by
Airless spray
Cures
Single component, air curing
Finish
Matt or satin, colour matched or changed

For whole roofs

Polyurea. Fast curing and hard wearing, for roofs that cannot wait.

A two-component spray system that cures within minutes of application, so a roof can be coated and back in service the same day, and rain later that afternoon does no harm. The hardest wearing finish in the range, for roofs with heavy foot traffic, plant, or an exposed position.

Used for
Full roof coating where speed of cure or wear resistance matters
Applied by
Heated plural component spray
Cures
Within minutes of application
Finish
Colour matched or changed

For gutters

Gutter lining. The same systems, applied along the gutter.

Box and valley gutters corrode at the joints and the outlets long before the sheets do, and a leaking gutter puts water into the building faster than corrosion at the cuts. The gutter is cleaned, the joints and outlets are sealed with the STP system, and a polyurethane lining is applied along the full length, so there are no seams left to fail. Usually done in the same visit as the roof.

Used for
Box and valley gutters, outlets and sumps
Applied by
Brush and roller, with reinforcement at the joints
Cures
As the systems above
Finish
Grey, or colour matched where the gutter is visible

Chosen on the roof. The survey grades the roof, and the grade picks the system.

  • Early

A rust line at the cut with the sheet still sound.

    STP seal at the cuts
  • Advanced

Coating lifting back from the cuts, staining down the sheets, or the factory coating failing across the roof.

Polyurethane system, then a spray coating where the sheets need it
  • Critical

    Sheets perforated or thinned through.

Replacement of the failed sheets before anything is coated

Certified systems, guaranteed work.

The systems carry BBA and ETA certification and CE marking, and have been tested to C5 for corrosion resistance. Every installation is carried out by an expert contractor to the written specification, inspected on completion, and covered by a Basecare guarantee for material and workmanship together.
