Cookie policy

Every cookie this site sets is listed below, along with what else is stored and what is held back until you allow it.

The approach here

One cookie is set before you choose anything, and it is the one that records the choice itself. Nothing else runs until you say so.

That includes everything served by Mapbox, a third party: the survey map, the map on the contact page, and the address list the assessment form offers once a postcode is entered. None of the three is requested until consent is given.

It also includes the only two measurement scripts on the site, Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Both are served from cutedgecorrosion.co.uk rather than from anyone else's server, and neither sets a cookie or stores anything in your browser, but they still wait: the question being asked is whether to measure at all, not whose server the measuring code arrives from.

Refusing leaves the rest of the site working. The postcode still resolves, because that lookup runs from this site's own server rather than from your browser, and the address can be typed in instead of picked from a list. The map step was always skippable.

Cookies this site sets

NameProviderPurposeExpiresCategory
cec_consentcutedgecorrosion.co.uk (first party)Records whether non-essential cookies and scripts were allowed, so the banner does not ask again and the gate stays shut when the answer was no.One yearEssential

That is the whole list. No advertising, tracking or personalisation cookie is set here, whatever you choose.

Other storage on your device

The assessment form keeps a draft in your browser's local storage, under the key cec-survey-v1, so that a refresh or a dropped connection does not lose the roof outline and the answers already given. It stays on your device, is never sent anywhere on its own, and is cleared when the request is submitted.

Clearing site data in your browser removes it, along with the consent cookie above.

Third parties, and when they load

  • Mapbox serves the survey map, the contact map and the assessment form's address list. Held back until consent, then loaded from api.mapbox.com.
  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors arrive from. Held back until consent, then loaded from cutedgecorrosion.co.uk itself, at /_vercel/insights/script.js. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device: a visit is counted from a value Vercel derives on its own servers, which changes daily and is never traced back to a person.
  • Vercel Speed Insights reports how quickly pages actually loaded and responded for real visitors. Held back until consent, then loaded from cutedgecorrosion.co.uk itself, at /_vercel/speed-insights/script.js. It sets no cookie either, and sends timings for the page rather than anything about you.
  • No other analytics runs here. Those two are the whole of it: no third-party measurement script, no advertising or tracking network, and nothing that follows you to another site. If that ever changes, this list says so before it does.
  • Postcode lookup and lead delivery happen server to server, from this site rather than from your browser, so they place nothing on your device.

Changing your choice

Cookie settings in the footer of any page reopens the banner, and a new choice replaces the old one immediately. Refusing after having allowed stops anything further from loading; reloading the page clears out anything already running.

The banner asks again a year after a choice, so a decision made once does not stand indefinitely.
