Cut edge corrosion treatment for specifiers
Certified liquid-applied systems, a site survey to base the specification on, and technical support through to sign-off, with materials and workmanship guaranteed through Basecare.
- BBA and ETA certified
- Tested to C5, ISO 12944
- Specification support

Specification support from survey to sign-off
Every specification starts on the roof, so the system, the preparation and the detailing are written for the condition found rather than taken from a catalogue.
Site survey and condition report
The whole roof surveyed from the roof or by drone, and its condition written up area by area.
A written specification
The system, preparation, detailing and sequence of work, ready to issue for tender.
Technical support on site
Questions answered as the work goes on, with a site visit where the roof needs one.
Inspection on completion
The finished installation checked against the specification before sign-off.
Guarantee documentation
Materials and workmanship covered together through Basecare, confirmed in writing.
A maintenance plan
An inspection cycle that keeps the roof, and the guarantee, in good order.
Certified liquid-applied systems
Four systems, two for treating cut edge corrosion where the sheets are sound and two for coating the whole roof. Each is specified for a particular condition, not sold as a range.
STPSilane terminated polymer
Cut edge corrosionA single-component sealant that bonds to plastisol, PVDF and bare galvanised steel alike, cures in damp conditions, and stays flexible as the sheets move with the weather. It is worked into the cut and along the lap as a bead, then coated over, so the cut is sealed against moisture and the corrosion underneath it stops.
- Used for
- Eaves, end laps, verges and the cuts around rooflights and vents
- Applied by
- Brush and knife, from the roof
- Cures
- Moisture curing, in damp conditions
- Finish
- Coated over with the treatment system in the roof colour
- Specify when
- A rust line at the cut, with the sheets still sound
PolyurethaneReinforced repair system
Cut edge corrosionWhere the coating has pulled back from the cut and the steel is corroding, the cut needs more than a seal. The polyurethane system builds a reinforced band over the cut and a hand's width of sheet either side, encapsulating it so it cannot lift again. Tough enough for foot traffic along the lap and flexible enough to move with the roof.
- Used for
- Advanced stage corrosion, gutter lines and heavily corroded laps
- Applied by
- Brush and roller, with reinforcement where the cut needs it
- Cures
- Single component, cures to a hard flexible film
- Finish
- Colour matched to the roof
- Specify when
- Coating lifting back from the cuts, with staining down the sheets
Hybrid polymerSpray roof coating
Whole roofsOnce the factory coating on the sheets is failing, the cuts are sealed first and the whole roof is spray coated in one continuous film. The hybrid polymer system covers every lap, fixing and profile without a seam, renews the surface of the roof and gives it one guarantee from ridge to eaves.
- Used for
- Full roof coating over prepared and sealed sheets
- Applied by
- Airless spray
- Cures
- Single component, air curing
- Finish
- Matt or satin, colour matched or changed
- Specify when
- The factory coating is failing across the sheets, not only at the cuts
PolyureaFast-cure spray coating
Whole roofsA two-component spray system that cures within minutes of application, so a roof can be coated and back in service the same day, and rain later that afternoon does no harm. The hardest wearing finish in the range, for roofs with heavy foot traffic, plant, or an exposed position.
- Used for
- Full roof coating where speed of cure or wear resistance matters
- Applied by
- Heated plural component spray
- Cures
- Within minutes of application
- Finish
- Colour matched or changed
- Specify when
- The roof has to be back in service quickly, or takes foot traffic and plant
Matching the system to the roof
The survey grades the roof, and the grade sets the specification. Where one roof shows more than one condition, each area is specified for what it needs.
| Condition found on survey | What is specified |
|---|---|
| A rust line at the cut, sheets sound | STP, sealed and coated |
| Coating lifting back from the cuts, staining below | Polyurethane reinforced repair, then coated |
| Factory coating failing across the sheets | Corrosion treated, then a hybrid polymer or polyurea spray coating |
| Sheets perforated or thinned through | Failed sheets replaced first, then the rest of the roof treated |
Certified and independently tested
The systems carry BBA and ETA certification and CE marking, and have been tested to C5 for corrosion resistance under ISO 12944.
Installed by expert contractors to your specification
The work is carried out by vetted metal roofing contractors who know the systems, working to the written specification and inspected on completion.
Materials and workmanship guaranteed together
One guarantee covers the whole installation, so there is no gap between the product and the people who put it on.
- Materials and workmanship covered together, through Basecare
- Every system certified, and installed to the written specification
- Inspected on completion before the guarantee is issued
- Kept in place with a maintenance plan
The term depends on the system specified and is confirmed in writing before work starts.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers on surveys, tenders, substrates and sign-off.
Is every specification based on a survey?
Yes. The roof is surveyed from the roof or by drone and the specification is written for the condition found, covering the system, the preparation, the detailing and the sequence of work.
Can the specification be issued for tender?
Yes. The written specification sets out everything a contractor needs to price the work, and the same document is used to inspect the finished installation.
Which finishes can the systems go over?
Factory coated profiled steel with plastisol or PVDF finishes, and galvanised steel. The survey confirms the substrate and its condition before the system is chosen.
How is the installation checked?
Each installation is carried out by an expert contractor to the written specification and inspected on completion before the guarantee is issued.
What does the guarantee cover?
Materials and workmanship together, through Basecare, provided the system is installed to the specification and maintained on the agreed cycle. The term depends on the system and is confirmed in writing before work starts.
Is technical support available during the works?
Yes. Questions on site are answered as the work goes on, with a site visit where the roof needs one.
Specifying a roof repair?
Send the building details and a surveyor will visit, grade the roof and write the specification.
